TOC Q & A

  • What is the Tournament of Champions? What is the purpose?

The Tournament of Champions (TOC) is a new 8-10 game cup style tournament that will be held in the Spring of 2008. The purpose of the TOC is to focus on player development by bringing teams together from Rochester and the tri-state area to compete in a 2 games per weekend format.

  • What is the fee to participate in this Tournament?

There is no fee to participate (other than a performance bond to cover fines etc). All entry fees, administration, referee, and field rental costs are being paid for by Corporate Sponsors.

  • Is this a Sanctioned Event?
Yes. US Club Soccer has sanctioned the Tournament of Champions. Teams that are registered to participate in TOC will have insurance coverage as part of the TOC. US Club Soccer is providing this coverage. Go to www.usclubsoccer.org for more information.
  • What player passes will be used for the TOC?

Since this is a US Club Soccer sanctioned event, all players, Coaches and Managers must have a US Club Soccer Pass in order to participate. The TOC is covering all the costs of registering TOC teams with US Club Soccer.

  • What is the process to register my team with US Club Soccer?

Teams should follow the instructions provided to them to do the initial registration at the USClubsoccer.org site. They will then be given a user name and password that will allow them to submit all the registration information for each player, Coach and Manager.

  • We already have player passes for our team from NY State West. Why can't we use those for the TOC?

US Club Soccer is a different sponsoring organization than US Youth Soccer. NY State West is part of US Youth Soccer. Since US Club Soccer is sponsoring TOC, their registration process and player passes will be used. This is all outlined in the TOC Rules document.

  • What age groups will participate?

The age groups that will participate in the TOC are boys and girls teams from U12 to U17.

  • What about teams that fall outside of U12-17?

Currently, the plan for 2008 is to only have teams at U12-17 compete. As the tournament grows and expands in future years, we hope to add other age brackets.

  • What teams will we compete against and how will they be selected?

This is an invitational style tournament. The Executive Staff from The Tournament of Champions is in the process of inviting teams from Rochester and surrounding cities. The intent is to bring some of the best teams together for some high-level competition.

  • Can any team apply to participate in the Tournament?
Any team can apply, but not all teams will be accepted. We expect to make some announcements on participating Clubs and Teams shortly. Look at the News section of this site for more information on Clubs and Teams that have been accepted.

  • What are the dates for the Tournament?

The dates are April 26-27, May 17-18, May 31-June 1, June 6-7 and June 21-22. Teams will play 8 games (2 per weekend) on the first four weekends. The top three teams from each age/gender bracket will also compete in the finals on June 21-22.

  • How many games will be played each weekend?

The average for each weekend will be two games per team. Games will be scheduled so that out of town teams can play two games in one day. Games will be played from 9 AM until roughly 6 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.

  • Why have only two games per weekend?

First, cramming too many games into a weekend is not good for player development and two it puts pressure on visiting teams (travel early or late hours to get to the venue). So having two games allows players and families to have fun, but not to overdo it.

  • Will awards be given to the teams that make the finals?

Yes, the top teams in each age bracket will receive awards.

  • Where will the TOC be held?

The TOC will be held at Total Sports Experience (TSE) in Rochester, New York. This is an outstanding location for youth Soccer events and it has easy access to Route 490. For more information on TSE, go to: http://www.totalsports-experience.com/

  • Who will run and administer the TOC?

Staff and volunteers from DMS will work together to pull off this event. If you have questions, please contact Jim Lundy (jimlundy@dougmillersoccer.com or Doug Miller (doug@dougmillersoccer.com).

  • How can we find out more about TOC?

We have a website setup that is located at: www.thetournamentofchampions.com

  • Will there be regular updates on TOC?

Yes, teams and players will get a regular update and these updates will also be on the website.
